Yearbook Advertising and Sponsorship Opportunity

Dear HeadStart Parents,

We will soon begin the exciting project of designing our Yearbook 2020-2021. As a school, we consider this publication an important representation of our students, dedicated teaching staff, and the diverse community that makes up HeadStart International School. Our Yearbooks feature class pages, commemorate school events and competitions and showcase performances by our students. In it we also celebrate the outstanding accomplishments and awards won by our students throughout the academic year. Previous editions can be found on our website or by clicking here.

With a projected 850 copies to be printed, this is a guaranteed audience platform of over 1,700 people which includes parents, extended family, friends and acquaintances who will want to flip through this attractive publication and see what HeadStart has been up to this year. The Yearbook will be high quality, full-colour, glossy, magazine-style publication, printed A4 size.

A number of pages are earmarked for sponsorship and We are giving you the opportunity to advertise your company or business with us. If you are interested in this prospect, please contact Anisa Van Der Laan [email protected]. This year we are offering reduced prices for our ad pages.

Buddy Benches

The Student Council launched a Buddy Bench Design Competition a couple of weeks ago. They were trying to promote friendship and kindness around the school. We have been lucky enough to have a bench to decorate for the children to share. We were really happy with the number of entries, over 100, and the quality of the designs. Children used lots of bright colours and very thoughtful words in their designs. It was very difficult to decide upon the winners as all of the entries were so good. This week we announced the Year 1 to Year 3 winners in assembly. They received a certificate and the year group winner won a small prize. The winners are:

Position Year 1 Year 2 Year 3
First Place Pruk Liz Dvani
Second Place Kim Lauren Zoe
Third Place Punn Miranda Avani

In assembly, we will announce the Year 4, 5 and 6 winners and the overall winning bench design. Student Council will work with Mr Clarke to paint the winning design onto our Buddy Bench over the next couple of weeks. Keep your eyes peeled for the Buddy Bench when it arrives in the school. -Ms Emma Spencer

In the English faculty, all teachers are giving a series of book talks at the beginning of their lessons. Book talks are exactly as they sound: short, high impact and engaging reflections on books we have read, why we had a liking for them and why students might want to try them out. We even share a sliver from the text to give the students a taster of what they can expect. Doing these talks is designed to help students navigate the library towards texts which will hopefully speak to them. Of course, the ultimate goal (as it always is) is to get books into the hands of students. I would love to hear from any parents who would like to come to school and share their love of a particular book with a group of students. If you’re interested in doing this, please drop me a line at [email protected]. -David Pollicutt, Head of English

Hi kids! Some of your teachers have been rescuing, taking care of and rehoming some wonderful needy animals around Phuket and they want to invite you to do the same. The Phuket Government Dog Pound is totally overrun with dogs at the moment; from perfect little puppies to fluffy small balls of love to bigger and bouncier friends; the pound really has it all and they are all waiting for someone to come and open their home to them. Take a look at your teachers who have fostered and adopted some of the loveliest pups imaginable; these before and after pictures speak for themselves. If you would like to foster or adopt a dog, go and see Miss Jody Leow or Miss Charlotte Myers and they can talk you through the very simple process, helping you find a perfect furry friend! If you aren’t able to adopt, why not go and speak to them about other ways in which you can help.
