Primary Department News
By Mr Andrew Whittaker, Head of Foundation and Primary
Another busy week in Primary has come to a close.
Many of us have ‘jumped out of our skins’ as the Science Faculty have wowed the pupils with loud experiments and demonstrations taking place the Science Labs. A big thank you to the Science Faculty for all their efforts this week. A number of our Primary pupils have enjoyed lessons in the Science Labs.
At this Thursday’s Primary Assembly Ms Scott and Ms Aon entertained us all in Elf outfits and explained the Shoe Box Appeal which all of us ( pupils, teachers and parents ) are encouraged to take part in. It would be great if we could beat our previous target of 320 boxes and aim for 400 this year as a whole school community.
Earlier today, pupils from Years 3 to 6 observed our Remembrance Service to commemorate not only those civilians and soldiers that died during The Great War (1914-18) , but also to take time to reflect on victims of all wars since.
As always, I was so proud of the respectful and mature behaviour displayed by all our HeadStart pupils. Mr Adam Drew read the first four verses of the poem ‘For The Fallen’ by Lawrence Binyon. I have shared these four verses with you below.
I wish you all a pleasant and peaceful weekend.
For the Fallen- Lawrence Binyon
With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children,
England mourns for her dead across the sea.
Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit,
Fallen in the cause of the free.
Solemn the drums thrill; Death august and royal
Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres,
There is music in the midst of desolation
And a glory that shines upon our tears.
They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted;
They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years contemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
Year 3 had a wonderful time exploring Phuket’s botanic gardens. We completed a scavenger hunt where we had to find out lots of information about different plants. We also made sure that we examined different flowers to look for anthers and sticky stigmas. This trip was a lovely culmination to our Science topic ‘Flowering Plants’. By Ms Lee White
Here are year 4 making animal habitats in a box using card, paint and modelling clay. By Ms Cunningham
Year 4 students in Mandarin class are building TUBRIC to help them understand sentence structures. By Ms Wei
