Catch Me Reading
Today we came to the end of our Catch Me Reading competition in Foundation and what a great response we had from our families. Final entries were being emailed to me through the night and some photos even appeared on our board this morning! A big Thank You to all the parents who sent in photos. The pictures were super and it looks like a lot of fun was had, all while inspiring a true love of reading.
It was very difficult for our judges, Ms Indu (Head of English and Humanities, Secondary) and Ms Annie (English Phase Leader, Primary), to choose the winners today as we had some fantastic entries, with our children being ‘caught’ reading in some very unusual places. Our final winners are;
Preschool Run and Zen
EY Yellow Liza and Gun
EY Blue Anthony and Lucy
Reception Yellow Yasya and Ingfah

Early Years have had a ROARing good time during our Dinosaur topic! We’ve completed lots of dinosaur crafts to help our fine motor skills, read lots of dinosaur stories to spark our imaginations and have even pretended to be real dinosaurs in our role play! We found a volcano in our outdoor area. It was very exciting watching it erupt!

In Reception this week we have been learning about being a doctor or a dentist. We were so lucky to have two special visitors who came to speak to the children about their jobs. A huge thank you to Pleum’s dad in Reception Blue and Nawit’s dad in Reception yellow! The children loved learning about what they do each day and asking questions about what it is like to work as a doctor or a dentist. We have also enjoyed lots of practical activities linked to health and teeth including adding and subtracting ‘teeth’, scrubbing tricky words on teeth, flossing with playdough, making pouches for the tooth fairy, making doctor’s bags and reading the story of the wobbly tooth! The children are so creative and have so many super ideas about the world around us. It has been a fun week!

The HKFC Under 14 Girls Rugby News
Keira has been playing rugby since she was 5 years old for the Hong Kong Football Club (HKFC). She has won numerous medals, cups and trophies over the years and last year 2016/2017 - was voted “Player of the Season” and also received the Peter Wilson Trophy for outstanding contribution to HKFC Rugby (this is open to both Boys and Girls U6’s - U12’s, 750+ players).
Last year the HKFC U12 Girls, sent a team to play in a 7’s tournament in Bangkok, Thailand. This was the first time a Girls Rugby Team from Hong Kong, toured outside Hong Kong and they went onto win the 7’s tournament. Following this successful tour, and now having moved to Phuket from Hong Kong, Keira was invited by the HKFC to join the HKFC U14 Girls Rugby 7’s Tour to Laos, not only as a player but as an ambassador of the sport.
The HKFC U14 Girls Rugby was the first Junior Rugby Club ever to tour Laos, which, is an achievement in itself. The Lao Rugby Federation is providing opportunities for boys and girls from both urban and rural areas to participate in the sport of Rugby Union. Besides playing rugby, the boys and girls are also being taught a number of academic subjects, leading onto scholarships, the boys and girls take their rugby very seriously.
The tour started with a visit to a local school, where they introduced the children of all ages to rugby through playing different games and team building exercises. The following day the HKFC girls trained at the stadium with their fellow Lao rugby players, some of which had travelled over 12hrs by coach to be there for the weekend, the day was finished off watching and supporting a senior Lao mens rugby game. Sunday was the 7’s tournament for both boys and girls, which, started at 8:00am and finished 6:00pm, in that period of time several matches were played in sunshine, mud and rain. The final was contested by both the HKFC girls teams, with HKFC Fire beating HKFC Ice 7 - 5, with Keira on the winning team.
Keira loved her time in Lao valuing their kindness and generosity and mostly their friendship and sportsmanship, she said, “it was an honour to be with my fellow Lao rugby players and something I will always cherish in my heart”
