Chaofah City Campus | Academic Year: 2026-2027

Weekly Update #4

This week features a mix of academic planning, cultural events, and community action. The Key Stage 3 Art Exhibition showcases student works in the Atrium until Wednesday, 23 September, alongside a UPrep Drop-in session for parents discussing university pathways. Preparation continues for the HeadStart University Fair, connecting secondary students with over 50 global institutions. Next weekend, the Thai Culture Club offers hands-on heritage activities like rice planting on Saturday, 26 September, followed by our first Rawai Beach Clean on Sunday. Off-campus, Year 13 BTEC students recently completed an industry-focused trip to AIHM Bangkok, and several primary students secured medals in regional taekwondo, swimming, and dance competitions.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Education Development Trust (EDT) Visit

On Monday 21 and Tuesday 22 September, HeadStart Chaofah City will host visitors from the Education Development Trust (EDT) as part of our whole school accreditation process. We hope you will join us in giving them a traditional warm welcome to our HeadStart community.

UPCOMING EVENTS

HeadStart University Fair 2026

We’re excited to welcome over 50 universities from Thailand and around the world to HeadStart for an inspiring evening of opportunities, conversations and future pathways! Alongside the fair, 11 focused workshops will help our international students navigate applications, explore different pathways and make informed decisions about their futures.

Most importantly, students can ask the questions that matter to them; about courses, countries, entry requirements, scholarships and finding the right pathway for their ambitions. More than a university fair, this is a celebration of our students, their aspirations and the global opportunities ahead. We can’t wait to welcome our students, families and university partners for an evening of discovery, connection and possibility!

To register, please click the link below or scan the QR code in the poster.

Thai Culture Club

We are delighted to invite students to join our Term 1 Thai Culture Club on Saturday, 26 September 2026, from 9:00am to 12:00pm at our Chaofah City Campus. This special morning celebrates local heritage through engaging, hands-on experiences. Early Years and Reception students will practice planting in a demonstration rice paddy, Years 1 to 3 will discover the traditional Nora dance and classic attire, and Years 4 to 6 will visit Museum Phuket to investigate local Peranakan heritage. If your child is interested in joining, please contact their Thai teacher for further information and registration.

Join Us for the First Beach Clean of the Year!

Join us for the first beach clean event of the year on Sunday 27 September at Rawai (meeting near We Cafe) from 9:30am to 10:30am.

This event is particularly special as it will be the first HeadStart beach clean hosted by our new Eco Coordinator, Ms Coddington-Wiratunga. We are hoping for a huge turnout to maximise our impact and give a warm welcome to any new families joining our community events this year. As always, please bring antibacterial gel, water, a hat, sunscreen, and gloves if required. Wear your House shirt for extra points! We look forward to seeing you there.

Stay & Play: All About Me!

Step into your child’s world and share in their early learning journey at our upcoming "All About Me" Foundation Stay & Play! We warmly invite parents into the ILC to spend a special session engaging directly with your children through a variety of hands-on activities. This is a beautiful opportunity for our young learners to celebrate themselves, share what they have learned in their first few weeks of school, and show you first-hand the joy they find in learning, playing, and making friends every day at HeadStart. Join us to celebrate their classroom discoveries and connect with our wider Foundation community.

Friday Market: Call for Vendors!

We are excited to announce the return of our beloved Friday Markets on 2 October, and we warmly invite local vendors to share their sustainable, health-focused products with the HeadStart community! The Friday Market is a wonderful opportunity to connect with our parents, students, and staff while supporting our school's core values, so if you offer eco-friendly or healthy goods, we would love to have you join us.

Mandarin Language Day

Immerse yourself in Chinese culture at our upcoming Mandarin Language Day! Join us on Saturday, 3 October 2026, from 9:00am to 12:00pm at the Chaofah City Campus for a morning of hands-on activities, including a Chinese calligraphy and painting workshop, Song brocade bag making, cloisonné coaster making, and crafting DIY botanical charm bracelets. Upcoming Meetings & Presentations

Parent meeting: Introduction to Year 1

To ensure a confident start to your child's Primary school journey, join us for our 'Introduction to Year 1' meeting. As students transition from the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) into more structured routines, this session outlines core curriculum expectations and how we foster greater independence in the primary setting. We look forward to welcoming you to learn practical ways to support learning at home and to partner together for a successful year ahead.

UPrep Drop-in

We warmly welcome all interested parents to join our upcoming University Preparation (UPrep) Drop-In session from 8:30am on Wednesday 23 September in Nakita’s Café (first floor). Join our University Counsellors for an informal chat, personalised advice, and valuable insights to help plan your child’s pathway to leading universities around the world.

Meetings & Presentations

Parent meeting: HeadStart Curriculum for Thai Parents

A huge thank you to everyone who joined our Thai Parent Meeting! It was a wonderful opportunity to connect as a community and discuss your child's educational journey. During the presentation, we explored the complete HeadStart curriculum pathway, from Early Years (EYFS) right through to our IGCSE, BTEC, and A-Level offerings, and highlighted how these qualifications prepare students for top universities in Thailand and internationally. If you were unable to attend or would like to review the information, you can view the full presentation below.

UPrep Talk 2 - Your Child's 5 Year Plan

Thank you to all the parents who joined this week's UPrep Talk, "Your Child's 5-Year Plan." We explored how to support students from Year 10 to Year 13 by fostering independence, balancing academics with extracurriculars, and making informed choices for their future pathways. Key topics included using Unifrog for career exploration, standardized testing, and understanding university timelines and costs. We appreciate your continued partnership in helping our students confidently step into their futures!

Meet the Team

Meet the Team: Our Thai Department

Guiding students through vibrant cultural traditions, language fluency, and personal growth, the HeadStart Thai Department warmly welcomes our community to a new academic year. Throughout the year, our dedicated Thai management and teaching staff take pride in organising foundational cultural ceremonies. By leading celebrations such as Wai Kru, Loy Krathong, Songkran, our termly Thai Culture Club and Thai Etiquette Competition, the team ensures students engage authentically with the traditions of our host country and develop a grounded respect for Thai heritage.

Beyond these school-wide events, the department delivers comprehensive language instruction alongside highly attentive pastoral care. By offering dedicated lesson options for Thai as a First and Foreign Language, as well as an IGCSE Thai programme for Years 10–11, the team ensures that both our Thai and non-Thai students effectively learn the language and culture of their island home. In the classroom, teachers provide structured individual support to help students master Thai literacy, build cross-cultural understanding, and develop confidence in a nurturing environment. We extend our deepest gratitude to our Thai team for their unwavering dedication to our students and look forward to the rich learning experiences they will provide this year.

A Masterclass in Staying Curious

From discovering a foundational love of learning at HeadStart to completing a Master's degree in Infection and Immunity in the Netherlands, Class of 2020 graduate Liza exemplifies the power of staying curious. We were thrilled to welcome her back to our classrooms to catch up with former teachers and reflect on her impressive academic journey.

After graduating, Liza completed a pre-medical Bachelor's programme at University College Roosevelt before successfully pursuing her Master's degree. "I got the love of learning from HeadStart, so I stayed curious throughout my Bachelor's and my Master's," she shared. "And this all was born at HeadStart." It was an absolute pleasure to see first-hand how her hard work has paid off. Congratulations on graduating, Liza, and thank you for sharing your journey with us!

Alumni Reunion!

It’s time to come home to HeadStart. Walk the halls of the Chaofah campus, see what’s changed since you graduated, and relive your favourite memories. A Spectacular Showcase of KS3 Art

Our Key Stage 3 artists have truly outdone themselves by transforming their big ideas into a spectacular Art Exhibition in the Attrium! We are thrilled to celebrate the opening and see the wonderful painting, printing, and sculpture created by Year 7, 8, and 9. A massive congratulations to our talented students, and a big thank you to the CAPA team for making it happen. The exhibition remains open until Wednesday 23 September, so please come explore the displays and discover the unique techniques behind each piece!

Primary

Hands-on Maths: Exploring '1 Less'

This week, the children have been busy exploring the concept of '1 less'. They loved getting hands-on with different resources, representing numbers in creative ways to make sense of the maths. Working in small groups, the students did a brilliant job modelling their ideas and helping each other use the right vocabulary. To celebrate their fantastic learning, the lesson finished up with a super fun game of bingo!

Secondary

Opening Doors to the Future: Year 13 BTEC Students Visit AIHM Bangkok

As part of HeadStart’s commitment to preparing students for life beyond the classroom, our Year 13 BTEC students travelled to Bangkok for a university experience at the Asian Institute of Hospitality Management (AIHM). During their visit, students experienced a day in the life of an undergraduate, gaining an introduction to hospitality and business management degrees through a combination of theory, practical workshops, and facility tours. Staying at the luxury Avani+ Riverside Bangkok Hotel provided a real-world insight into the type of international environment they could one day work in. The trip helped students see how the leadership, communication, and entrepreneurial skills they are currently developing through their BTEC studies can prepare them for university and open doors across many different industries.

Students also learned about AIHM’s global placement opportunities, including internships in Japan and the Maldives, and the pathway to seamlessly transfer to Les Roches’ prestigious campuses in Switzerland or Spain. This exclusive route unlocks career opportunities with top-tier luxury brands, culminating in a world-renowned Les Roches degree. By experiencing university life first-hand and exploring these international possibilities, our Year 13 students were encouraged to think ambitiously about their next steps and the successful futures their HeadStart education can provide.
