Why I Love HeadStart

Yanhao (3 Yellow Chaofah City campus) – Enrolled at HeadStart since Year 2

Yanhao joined HeadStart almost two years ago and has made amazing progress since, both in her confidence and English language ability. Much of this is down to her enthusiasm for performing as a member of both CAPA Junior and our LAMDA program. She also starts every day with a visit to the library! So, why does Yanhao love HeadStart?

Secondary

Secondary Transition: Year 6 Spend a Day in Year 7

On Friday 30th May, we had our first ever full Year 6 to Year 7 transition programme at our Cherngtalay campus. Both Year 6 classes followed a Year 7 timetable for the day, navigating the necessary independence, and negotiating the hurdles of timekeeping and getting to each new class on time and in the right place. We are proud that they did so well, and very much look forward to them and their parents joining us in our growing Secondary community here.

After lunch the students took part in a House project, working collaboratively to build viking-style catapults out of bamboo. As House teams, they then competed to see which of their built designs worked best to launch a football or a water balloon.

This was part of a series of transition events taking place for our Year 6 students. Next week, we will hold a Y6-into-7 assembly where we will try to answer all the questions which the students have written about how Secondary works, and about any of their worries. At HeadStart, we recognise the importance of supporting students through challenging transitions at key points in their socioemotional development. The 6-into-7 programme supports students as they move into early adolescence and through puberty in Key Stage Three (KS3), taking into account the physical and social challenges that occur as a consequence. The KS3 programme also reflects the changing nature of learning as we gradually build towards the important qualifications and examinations of the Upper Secondary school.

It was a fun day of learning, and we have no doubt that the students will flourish in Secondary school next year. The Secondary Team
