Stay & Play sessions at HeadStart hold significant importance within the Foundation department. These sessions promote parental involvement, allowing parents to actively engage with their child’s development, foster social skills, understand play based learning and build trust with the school community. Meetings & Presentations

FastForWord (FFW) Parent Presentation and Workshop on 10.09.25

A big thank you to all the parents who joined us on Wednesday for our Fast ForWord parent presentation! The session explored the science behind the programme, demonstrated how it works, and showed how it adapts to each child’s level to provide personalised practice. Parents also learned about the key benefits for students, from improved reading fluency and comprehension to stronger memory, focus, and confidence.

Together with Naresh from BrainFit, we discussed how parents can help at home by providing the right conditions. Parents also had the chance to see a demo of the programme and received brochures to take home. For those unable to attend, you can explore how Fast ForWord supports your child’s learning journey in the brochure below 👇

Thank you to all parents who joined us. We truly appreciate their trust in the school and value the opportunity to support their children’s learning and development.

UPrep Talk #2: Preparing for University – A Guide for Parents

We are pleased to invite you to the second session in our UPrep Talk series at our Cherngtalay campus. On Wednesday 17th September at 8:30am, we will be in the Secondary Indoor Learning Centre (ILC) to discuss how you can best prepare your children for university applications.

This talk is designed for parents across our Secondary school, offering a general outline of what families can be doing now to support their child’s future. We will also delve into the Morrisby Report, a valuable tool that provides in-depth analysis of a student’s aptitudes, interests, and career potential. We will show you how to interpret this report and use it as a guide for your child’s academic and career planning.

We understand this can be a complex process, and our goal is to empower you with the knowledge and resources to make it a smooth and successful journey for your family. We look forward to seeing you there for this informative and friendly session.

Meet the Team

The UPrep Team

The path to higher education is not one-size-fits-all; it’s a personal journey of discovery. At HeadStart, our University Preparation (UPrep) programme is founded on this belief. We move beyond generic advice to provide truly bespoke guidance that honours each student’s individual strengths, passions, and career ambitions. Embarking on the university application process is also a major milestone for the entire family. Our UPrep programme is designed as a collaborative partnership, bringing students, parents, and our expert counsellors together to ensure a smooth and successful journey.

Our dedicated team works closely with students and their parents to craft a pathway that is uniquely theirs. Through one-on-one counselling, skills workshops, and continuous support, we empower our students to become principled and inquisitive architects of their own futures. From exploring “best fit” universities to polishing application essays that reflect their authentic voice, we ensure every student feels seen, supported, and confident as they take their next significant step.

Our UPrep team is ready to help any students and parents who would like more information on the programme. Contact the following members of staff for more information:

Acting Out Handa’s Surprise in Early Years Blue

We have been reading Handa’s Surprise in Early Years Blue! We have been enjoying it so much that we decided to get real fruit and act it out. The children really immersed themselves in the story and were able to follow along and know when it was their turn to take the fruit from Handa’s basket. They really enjoyed this activity and it was great to see their confidence grow more and more! We were also able to pass around the fruit and describe how it felt, using words like ‘spiky’, ‘heavy’, ‘soft’ and ‘cold’.

Primary

Learning About Stone Age Shelters in Year 3

Year 3 have been learning all about the Stone Age. They learnt how they hunted for food, used stones to make tools and how they learnt, over time to build shelter. They found out that the Stone Age covered three time periods (spanning millions of years) and that their expertise at building shelters developed greatly over time. The children chose one of these time periods and based their diorama around that choice. The Year 3 Team

Secondary

Collaborating to Bring Greek Theatre to Life in Year 7 Drama

In Year 7 Drama this term, the students are studying Greek Theatre. Through the use of facial expressions, levels and gestures, students created freeze frames from different stimuli relating to Greek Theatre, such as “The Gods are Watching”, “A Hero’s Big Mistake”, “The Chorus Reacts” and “A City in Chaos”. Of course, we always start the lesson with some warm up games that help students with their listening, concentration and ensemble skills. Students in Year 7 Yellow were enthusiastic, engaged and showed great collaboration.

Success Outside School

Congratulations to Bo (4 Blue) for passing his Initial Grade Drum Kit with Merit from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.
