Sixth-Form Programme (Ages: 16-18)

A-Level and BTEC Pathways to Top-Tier Universities

Your child’s final years of schooling are the defining bridge to their future. In HeadStart’s Sixth Form, we provide a rigorous, globally recognised Key Stage 5 environment tailored for 16-18 year olds. Offering both A-Level and BTEC pathways, our dedicated programme is designed to build independent, university-ready young adults who achieve exceptional results and secure places at the world’s leading academic institutions.

World-Class Attainment & Dual Pathways

Offering both Cambridge International and Pearson Edexcel A-Level and BTEC pathways, we empower students to tailor their studies to their academic strengths. With exceptional pass rates and prestigious Cambridge and Pearson International Learner Awards, our graduates secure qualifications recognised by leading universities globally.

Strategic University Preparation (UPrep)

Securing a place at a premier university requires more than just excellent grades. Through our dedicated U-Prep programme, students receive personalised academic mentoring and structured guidance to successfully navigate global admissions processes for highly competitive courses like Medicine, Engineering, and the Sciences.

Cultivating Autonomy & Resilience

As students enter their final years, we cultivate the self-discipline required for high-achieving university outcomes. Trusting students to manage their study periods builds essential independence. Crucially, this autonomy is balanced by a supportive community within the dedicated Sixth Form study room. Guided by the Head Boy, Head Girl, and Senior Prefects, this student-led network ensures collaborative peer mentorship and a shared academic focus. This vital balance of freedom and support produces confident, resilient graduates.

A Message from the Head of Upper Secondary

The final years of school bridge the gap between structured secondary education and university independence. In the HeadStart Sixth Form, our ethos is built on demanding high academic standards while providing targeted, personalised support. We treat our students as young adults, granting them the autonomy to manage their time while backing them with experienced mentors and dedicated university advisors.

Because no two students share the same ambitions, we offer both Cambridge A-Level and BTEC pathways. Students are guided by specialists who understand exactly what global universities demand, ensuring they have the strategic support necessary to navigate competitive admissions.

A strong academic transcript, however, is only part of the equation. We expect our Sixth Formers to act as role models and build practical resilience through initiatives like the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Our objective is straightforward: to ensure our students graduate as confident, self-disciplined individuals, fully equipped to thrive in life beyond school.

Pearson BTEC Pathway

For students targeting degrees in business, sports, or the creative industries, our BTEC programme offers a dynamic alternative to traditional exams. Through practical, coursework-based assessment, students develop industry-relevant skills, self-management, and hands-on experience while earning globally recognised vocational qualifications.

Cambridge International A-Levels

Designed for students pursuing highly competitive academic degrees, this pathway offers deep subject mastery. The rigorous Cambridge curriculum challenges students to develop critical thinking, complex problem-solving, and advanced analytical skills, providing the ultimate academic preparation for global university study.

Advanced Extracurriculars & Academies

We support students in building a balanced, competitive applicant profile. Beyond the classroom, Sixth Formers can compete in elite sports Academies, achieve LAMDA qualifications, or take on leading roles in Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA) productions, ensuring they develop into well-rounded, capable young adults.

Extended Project Qualification

Ensure your child stands out to top universities by cultivating vital independent research skills. The Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) is a standalone A-Level programme where students deeply explore a chosen topic. Whether producing a dissertation or a creative artefact, they develop the critical thinking essential for higher education success.

Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award

In Year 12, students have the opportunity to undertake the Silver Award. By completing challenging outdoor expeditions and committing to community service, students build exceptional resilience, teamwork, and outdoor survival skills—highly sought-after traits that enhance university applications and personal development.

Life Skills & Enrichment Programme

Running alongside our core curriculum, a dedicated enrichment programme equips students with essential life skills, including financial literacy and independent living. We actively support students in securing work experience and charity placements, ensuring they build compelling applicant profiles as well-rounded young adults.
